New Equipment: Scheops Miniature Microphone MiniCMIT

The Schoeps CMIT has always been one of my favorite microphones with great reach, warm sound and low noise floor. I didn’t think it could be improved but they did by making it smaller. The only copromise is the fixed 4th order low-cut filter at 70 Hz so far I think it is a good trade off. I will post more after using this microphone more but so far it seems like a winner

Tech Tip: Audio Technica ATH-M50x Headphones

Over my 17 year career I have used many types of headphones and by far my favorite is the newer ATH-M50X. They are very comfortable for those who wear and don’t wear glasses, and my favorite part a user replaceable cable. This allows you to swap between a straight cable or coiled cable depending upon what application you using them in. I also had another shorter straight cable made as well. I have been very happy with the headphones and use them for most situation estimated retail price is around $170.00 so check them out. They are far more comfortable them the classic Sony 7506.

New Equipment: Mozegear Qbit XL Timecode Box

Since the introduction of the Mozegear TIG Q28 timecode box  I have been a big supporter of the company and its timecode products. They are cost effective, solid, easy to use and have user replaceable batteries. With the current hostile RF landscape I am not in favor of having active timecode boxes that require either a WIFI or Bluetooth link. The TIG Q28 have been very solid for me my only criticism of the boxes is only being able to get around 13 hours with Eneloop rechargeable AAA so with the occasional long day I would have to change the batteries or use alkaline AA. With the Qbit XL that is no more with a built in user replaceable NP-50 battery you can get up to 30 hours on a single charge via the Hirose charging port. The size and weight of these new boxes is great too. So if your looking for a small simple timecode solution and cost effective timecode solution you should check these out They come in either BNC or Lemo 5 Pin

New Gear Sound Devices Mix-Pre 10

For anyone that needs 10 Mic pre amps and an affordable machine with great build quality this is the best option and it is only $1800.00. Below is what Sound Devices has to say about the machine:

The World’s Smallest 10-Input/12-Track Recorder

The MixPre-10T is the newest member of the groundbreaking MixPre Series of recorders, mixers, and USB audio interfaces. This lightweight, 10-input/12-track recorder offers world-class sound quality, flexible powering, and built-in, highly accurate timecode generator/reader – perfect for production sound mixers, field recordists and sound designers.

I would agree 100% since we already have the flagship recorder from Sound Devices the 688 we aren’t adding this to our inventory but it is a great machine at a great price point
