Audio Technica M-50X Headphones

After being a Sound mixer for close to 20 years I have used many different brand and types of headphones. The classic recommended headphone for years has been the Sony MDR 7506 but I have never been of fan of them due to comfort and tonal quality. For cart based work and non fast pace bag work. I have become a real fan of the Audio Technica M-50 X Headphones for comfort , accurate sound reproduction and durability. One of the other positive attributes of the M-50 is the cable is user replaceable and comes with a straight/ coiled option depending upon what your doing. At a price point of under $150.00 they are also still cheap enough if you lose them its still going to be ok. So if your looking for a new set of headphones check them out from your favorite audio retailer.

Tech Tip: On Camera IFB Earpieces

Working live and on air requires a special breed of sound mixer. You have to get it right the first time every time you either do or you don’t then you move on. It is important to have the right gear for the job. The gold standard of on air IFB ear pieces is Audio Implements a small family owned company. Virtually every news network and station uses these ear pieces. They are well built and last forever at a fair price. So if you find yourself needing on air IFB ear pieces give them a ring. There website isn’t the best but call them and you will get great customer service

Bubble Bee Industries Wind Protection

For many years Rycote has been considered the gold standard for wind protection for microphones. From affordable slip on protection to higher end blimps. My one main criticism was lack of something in the middle or easier to transport when on fast pace jobs. Bubble Bee has a great solution called the spacer system it is a slip on wind protection system along with a higher wind cover you can pull over. It is very well built and cost effective. While I have not tested it along side my Rycote blimp I know it affords more wind protection then a Rycote slip on windscreen with a easier ability to pack. So if your looking for a different option for wind protection Bubble Bee Industries is worth a look they are also available at your favorite audio retailer worldwide

New Equipment: Scheops Miniature Microphone MiniCMIT

The Schoeps CMIT has always been one of my favorite microphones with great reach, warm sound and low noise floor. I didn’t think it could be improved but they did by making it smaller. The only copromise is the fixed 4th order low-cut filter at 70 Hz so far I think it is a good trade off. I will post more after using this microphone more but so far it seems like a winner
