We were grateful to be hired to work on the Roper Saint Francis 2030 commercial/ launch video. This shoot had many challenges including working on an active street corner during the morning rush hour in Downtown Charleston SC and having to quickly mic up many different medical professionals in a short amount of time.
Excited to be part of the kick off of the long running MSNBC series county to county. Before every election year MSNBC examines different counties the year leading up to the election. We were stationed in Anson County North Carolina with Antonia Hilton where we talked to folks about the concerns about the upcoming election you can see all the reports below. If your shoot requires a Location Sound Mixer in North Carolina or South Carolina feel free to contact us
We recently had the privilege of working on a hospital commercial in downtown Charleston SC. This shoot was a mix of stands ups and interviews about the mission statement of the hospital. Below is a typical set up for a fastpace quick moving commercial job. My Sound Devices 833 running active Noise Asst noise reduction. Comtek 216 IFB Transmitter for client monitoring, Sennheiser G4 Mono camera send to camera, Schoeps Mini CMIT on the boom.
While this package is compact it does not compromise on quality at all it allows us to provide the best quality audio possible while still maintaining a compact foot print which is important when working in historical cities like Charleston SC with limited parking and narrow sidewalks.
I started in this business 21 years ago doing network news and still do it when my schedule permits. On this particular day we were covering a bond hearing along with a press conference. While covering all of this we also do live shots during the day to report what is going. I tell everyone that working network news is hours of boredom with moments of terror mixed in. You have to be ready for the unexpected at any moment.
On this day due to the fast pace of the day and only needing 1-2 wireless microphones I opted for my compact Sound Devices 633 recorder, Lectrosonics SRC with SMWB transmitters and Comtek 216 IFB for the reporter to hear program. This package is very lean and power efficient allowing me to be on stand by all day without any issues.
Being a Location Sound Mixer in the Charleston South Carolina and Savannah Georgia area means I do many different types and kind of shoots. News magazines is one of them especially high profile ones such as what is pictured above. The interview above is a standard 2 on 1 interview meanings two talent talking to one reporter a very common set up.
My equipment choices for this interview was a my trusty Sound Devices 833 Mixer/ recorder, Lectrosonics SMWB wireless with Cos-11 lav mics on the talent and a Schoeps CMC1 over the reporter. My preference would have been to put Schoeps microphones over all of them however the framing/ lighting made this not feasible. If you want to see the complete interview view it here
Like most of these large network interviews we had 3-4 hours to set up light and check in with New York who was watching via a Zoom chat room to maintain social distancing and limit people on set. The interview went off well and everyone was happy with the results. So if you have a high profile interview in Charleston South Carolina or the Southeast and need an experienced Location Sound Mixer with over 20 years of experience please contact us.
