I had a reader ask me today when do I use a vampire clip? The answer is I rarely do, I feel that moleskin and transpore allows me much better control in placement of my Countryman EMW, B6 and Sanken Cos-11 Lav’s I however just recently purchased a Professional Sound Services www.pro-sound.com V-Clip vampire clip which costs $11.95. It is made for use with Sanken Cos-11 Lav’s It seems well built and like a useful tool for some situations though I haven’t had a chance to use it yet but like everything I buy I am sure I will. However my moleskin rarely fails me so I will keep using it.
NeoPax Sound Belts and Straps
As someone who often needs to use a leg strap or waist strap on one of the many reality shows I work on to hide a microphone pack on what seems to be ever shrinking waradrobe. I am always looking for a better solution for a long time I have used mostly the Remote Audio strap kit or just a plain ace bandage. Though these solutions work they aren’t often very comfortable for the talent. Which is a real issue on a reality show much more than on a film. It is my goal as a reality tv mixer to make the talent forget we are following them, that also includes making them forget they are wearing a mic pack. So my newest tool is the NEOPAX system which I have found to be very effective especially on very thin talent. I have also had talent tell me that they forget they are even wearing a waist or ankle strap. So you should try out a NEOPAX strap or belt available at most major sound retailers including www.pro-sound.com my prefered provider.
Dell Netbook Review
After playing with my new netbook the last few days I am very impressed for the $400.00 I spent inlcuding a case and windows xp. I have loaded Sound Devices Wave Agent, IAS frequency software, Open office and PDF Reader. I plan to add BWF Widget Pro soon as well. The computer starts up quickly, and also allows for easy internet surfing. The hardest thing though was getting use to Windows XP again, As someone who has been a Mac user the last 4 years I remembered why I hated windows so much. But overall a great purchase that will help me work more effectively.
New Equipment in my kit
To better serve my clients I have added two items that allow me to provide better service:
A Dell Netbook Inspiron mini 9 this powerful laptop with a 16gb solid state hard drive will allow me to quickly email transcription files, burn audio files and do other vital on site tasks.
My 2nd recently addtion is the Professional Wireless Systems Intermodualtion Analysis system. This powerful software program allows me to quickly and effectively choose the best wireless frequencies for any location in the world. The ability to do this before arriving at a location will save time and improve wireless range and quality. It will also allow me to corrdinate frequncies for mulit mixer projects and shows.
At Prolocation Sound LLC we always strive to have the best and most up to date equipment for our customers in order to provide the best audio possible.
New Equipment in my Inventory Jk Audio Compack phone interface
To better serve my clients I have added The Jk Audio Compack phone interface and dial box. After much research this is the most flexible phone interface available because it allows for recording conversations and IFB dialing in any situation it will work with all the following:
Cell Phones: Simply plug ComPack into the 2.5 mm headset jack of your wireless cell phone. Your phone will recognize ComPack as a headset which will disable the mic and speaker in the phone.
PBX Systems: Unplug the handset from any analog or digital PBX phone and plug the coily cord into ComPack. You can now send and receive audio through the PBX telephone set.
Analog Phones: Plug ComPack into an RJ-11 jack, go off-hook and dial, or answer an incoming call.
So far it has done a great job and I am sure will serve me well for many years to come
