I have always been a fan of Sound Devices products I have owned or currently own every one of there products from the MM1 headphone amp to the 788T. The build quality and support are outstanding I have never had a Sound Devices product have a complete fatal failure on me on set and I have never lost a single file on any of its recorders. So what sets the 664 apart from its other recorders and mixers? The answer is everything it brings together the best of both product lines it has all the benefits of a mixer and it also recorders. Now is is important to understand the 664 is a mixer that is a recorder not a recorder that also can do a mix.
This is what makes it such a great machine it allows effortless connection to camera and the ability to to also record a high quality iso track as well. It will also make a great bag rig for my film work as well. It is also very easy to use and set up with under 10 menus I had my machine ready to work in under 30mins. The 788T is a great machine but it takes some knowledge to configure it correctly. In part 2 of my review I will discuss more about what I like about the Sound Devices 664
